🔋🔥Thermal Runaway Concerns
Ok, had a few people approach me about thermal runaway for BESS. Let me start off by saying there is real concern here. As a tech is is always important to understand the battery chemistry, protection features, and actions to take in an emergency.
For older systems with water fire systems, water can cause electrical issues and faults so inspections are crucial. if any signs of thermal issue or electrical issues best to not open the doors and evaluate from a distance.
Understand the arc flash labels, and if not exist- stop and do not approach.
LFP is more stable and less of a risk than NMC, but still a risk.
Most systems- take "LET IT BURN" approach and stay at a safe distance.
Evan at 0% the battery still has plenty of electrical potential.
Understadn what protective features hould do and what parameters. (electrical, gases, tempertute, colling, etc) you can see remotely.
